Dragon Boat Racing–A Competition of Fighting Spirit and Power

If you want to take part in the exciting activities in Hong Kong, you should not miss its dragon boat racing. This is held during the Dragon Boat Carnival, one of the biggest events in the city. The celebration goes on for three days and there is much merrymaking. There is live entertainment, lots of food stalls, and fun activities.

Of course, you should not miss the boat race. It is considered the top sport in Hong Kong. Professional boat racing teams from all over the world vie for the title of champion synchronised paddlers. Even local fishermen join this competition to show off their skills and prowess.

The event starts with the beating of drums and the racers start paddling in unison. The main highlight of the Dragon Boat Festival is the lively and mighty-looking dragon boats. These measure over ten metres and are elaborately carved with dragon tails and heads. Each crew consists of 20-22 paddlers with one drummer in the front.
